为了帮助更多学生了解北欧名校, 我们对北欧的部分名校的招生宣传老师进行了访谈, 并将在平台上陆续发布。
1. 你们学校的优势是什么 ? 有什么优势专业 ?
What is your university comparative advantages with others ? and what are the popular and unique subjects at your university ?
I suppose the fact that we are a highly ranked university with a long history makes us a very interesting choice for international (as well as domestic) students. We are very well funded, which means that we can attract the very best researchers, teachers and professors, as well as enabling us to invest in the best equipment and facilities: all of which ultimately benefit our students. We try to offer programmes that are closely linked to the research we conduct at the university, regardless of subject area, and that is something that not all universities around the world are able to.
As for our popular and unique programmes, we are a fully comprehensive university, and we offer programmes within all majors subject areas such as engineering, medicine, law, economics & management, social science and so on. We are popular for slightly different reasons in different countries; American students tend to choose our programmes within social science and environmental science, for instance. Indian students seem to prefer engineering and medicine. Chinese students often go for programmes in economics & management, as well as engineering and science. We want and encourage diversity, and strive to get a good mix of students from all over the world in our classrooms.
2. 你们学校有多少中国学生 ? 本科, 硕士各自的比例 ?
How many Chinese students at your university roughly ? if possible, how many at Bachelor level and how many at Master ?
We have no exact number, as it is illegal in Sweden to register students nationality when they enroll. An educated guess would be around 200-250 Chinese students (including PhD and exchange students) at any given time. The majority of these can be found studying Master’s level programmes (roughly between 100-150 students).
3. 你们希望招收的中国学生是什么样的背景 ?
What are your university expectation towards Chinese students profile ?
As all universities like to say, we want to best students possible! It is certainly helpful if a Chinese student has taken his/her Bachelor’s degree at a rather well known Chinese university (preferably 985 or 211). This is not necessarily official university policy, but it usually improves students chances of being admitted. As for GPA we typically require at least 75% (or 3.0 out of 4). However, many programmes also look at students motivational statements (aka personal statements) and/or relevant experiences from outside the classroom: it’s not all about the GPA!
An IELTS score average of 6.5 (or TOEFL 90) is also required for basic eligibility.
4. 你们学校的奖学金政策如何 ? 每年奖学金有多少 ?
Briefly introduce your university scholarship policy, how many students get scholarship 2012 ?
We run our own scholarship programme called the Lund University Global Scholarship Programme, which awards scholarships to non-EU students based on merit. The funds come both from the Swedish Government, and from private and/or business sponsors. Students apply on our website after they have made a programme application, and the programmes/faculties select the scholarship fellows. In addition to this, many of our students receive scholarships from The Swedish Institute.
For the 2012 intake, around 100 scholarships were awarded to our students; 50% Lund University Global Scholarship Programme, 50% Swedish Institute.
The good news is that the Swedish Government has roughly doubled the money available for scholarships for the 2013 intake, and our own scholarship fund is also growing each year. This means that there is a stronger chance than ever before for students who apply for studies starting in the autumn of 2013 to receive some kind of scholarship.
